February is not noted for huge amount of rain. Since 2000, the wettest one was 2004 with 75.5mm.

February 2009 was very wet.
The first half was just promising. We got 8mm on Feb 9, then 17mm on the 11th. Overall, we got 33mm before the 20th. Then the deluge came. On the 20th we got 59mm. 32.5mm the following day, and then 35mm. In three days we got nearly one fifth of the amount of water we got last year. Nine days since the 20th, we got 161mm.

The professional farmer next door reckons he will not need to feed his sheep with hay and silage this winter because the grass will grow sufficiently with this rain. He was all smiling. It remains to be seen, but certainly the ground is very very wet at the moment.
