When a knitter's natter completed a pair of Estonian socks, we decided to do a pic of her Estonian knitting collage.



Featured in the pics are "Folk knitting in Estonia" by Nancy Bush, Interweave Press, 1999 and pages from the Huvitav Jurnaal. I picked up ta bound edition of the Jurnaals from 1939 and 1940 in a secondhand bookshop in Tallin when I was visiting there, during the late 1980s and early 90s. It was at the time of the 'singing revolution' to regain independence from the Soviet Union. I have not been back there since the summer of 1994 when they held the first song festival after regaining independence. It was just massive.

Talking about the singing revolution, I learned that there is a doco on the subject recently released in the US. Would really like to check it out soon.
