introducing our new born lamb, Iggy.

Our first lamb of the season was born last week.





He's called Iggy because he looks like Piglet with pointy pinky ears sticking out.



With lambing dawns the start of a new season, spring.



He's a polled Wiltshire, which according to the NZ rarebreeds website , was "developed in Australia using Polled Dorset rams and Wiltshire Horn ewes". There are apparently a few thousand of them in the country since first brought in in 1972, according to the same website.



Willies are reputed to be quite hardy and noted for their resistance to flystrike.
Their most notable feature is that, unlike other breeds of sheep, Willies shed their own fleece.
